Texas Family Initiative, LLC (TFI) hosted its fourth annual charity golf tournament benefiting EMPOWER on Monday, May 5, 2025, at The Nelson Golf and Sports Club at The Ritz-Carlton Las Colinas. The event brought together 17 teams and raised $77,816 to support EMPOWER in serving thousands of children in foster care across the Metroplex East region of North Texas. The region includes Dallas, Collin, Ellis, Fannin, Grayson, Hunt, Rockwall, Kaufman and Navarro counties.

The Swing Into Action! Golf Tournament was made possible by the Miller Group who generously served as the title sponsor, along with support from various other generous sponsors, including Peter Lyden Investments and Real Estate.

Funds raised from the tournament will be used for critical needs such as health and dental care not covered by Medicaid, as well as essential items like clothing, toiletries and other comforts to help restore a sense of normalcy and dignity to children navigating the foster care system.

“We want to thank the players and sponsors who joined us and our dedicated staff, who made this day possible. Events like these are vital in supporting the lives of the children and youth we serve,” said Shirley Dwyer, CEO, Texas Family Initiative (TFI). “The generosity and commitment we witnessed are invaluable and we look forward to continuing to hold this event to support the local Dallas community.”

EMPOWER, a nonprofit child welfare collaborative led by TFI, serves as the Community-Based Care contractor for the Metroplex East region. With the support of local providers including CK Family Services, Jonathan’s Place, The Bair Foundation and Pathways Youth and Family Services, EMPOWER works to ensure every child in foster care receives the support they need.
