May is recognized as National Foster Care Month
Wichita Falls, Texas (May 5, 2021) – There are approximately 29,000 children in foster care in Texas. Through no fault of their own, children are placed daily in out of home care. There are many Texas children in need of a temporary, loving place to call home. May is National Foster Care Month and is a great time to highlight the need for more foster parents in local communities. 2INgage especially needs foster parents willing to accept teenagers and sibling groups into their home.
Children from our Big Country & Texoma communities benefit from remaining in their home community while they are in foster care. Children experience less trauma when they can maintain contact with their brothers and sisters, extended family, friends, teachers and stay in their community!
“Children in foster care need someone to step up and be their advocate, their champion. It isn’t always easy, but it will probably be the most rewarding thing you ever do,” said 2INgage Senior Vice President Linda Garcia. “By becoming a foster parent, you’re helping a child in need, but you’re also serving an important role in your community.”
One group of local foster parents understood the need for children to remain in their home community and went above and beyond to keep the kids connected. Candace Greene, Kristina Deason and Tammy Holland, all local foster parents, teamed up to help keep a sibling group of ten close together. While each home couldn’t take all of the siblings, they each took children so seven of the ten siblings could be in three safe, loving homes in the same neighborhood, and school, keeping that familial bond intact. The caseworker for these children call this amazing group of foster moms the, “Foster Aunties.”
All the siblings can be seen spending a lot of time at each of the “Foster Aunties” homes. The siblings all still get to support each other when one has a school event, sports event or extracurricular activity.
If a foster parent needs help, the “Foster Aunties” always step in to help. These women are selfless, loving, and supportive, and truly embody the idea behind community-based care!
